Tuesday - Page 127 in text - Cause and Effect.  Do Practice It!

Wednesday - Text - pages 128 - 133.  After reading, answer EQ (in red) page 128.  Write a paragraph using at least one compound sentence and one complex sentence.

Thursday - Page 133 text.  Section Review - Complete and turn in at end of class. OPEN HOUSE tonight.

Tuesday (4/12) we will begin taking CRCT tests.  There will not be any homework assignments given during the week.  Get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast each morning.

Monday - Make a chart showing the personal pronouns by case, number, and person. Pink Book pages 212 - 218.  Red Book - pages 58 - 67.

Tuesday - Tell how personal subject pronouns are used and give examples. 

Wednesday - Tell how personal object pronouns are used and give examples. Write a paragraph using the demonstrative pronouns.  Underline the pronouns.

Thursday - Conjugate the verb to be.  Be sure to include present, past future, present perfect, past perfect, future perfect.

Friday - Test over pronouns and verbs.

7th Grade

Monday - Make a chart showing the personal pronouns by case, number, and person. Pink Book pages 212 - 218.  Red Book - pages 58 - 67.

Tuesday - Tell how personal subject pronouns are used and give examples. Tell how object pronouns are used and give examples.

Wednesday - Write 3 sentences using participles, three sentences using gerunds, and 3 sentences using infinitives. Pink Book pages 440 - 445.

Thursday - Study for test over pronouns, participles, gerunds, infinitives.

6th ElA AC and 7th ELA AC March 21st - 25th

6th Grade and 7th Grade

Monday - Test Friday over literary terms that you were given last week.  You will begin new novels on Monday.  I would like for you to complete the first 10 chapters by Friday.

Tuesday - HW -   Write the 5 parts of a novel's plot and give example of each using a novel that you have read.

Wednesday - Write one page (double spaced) answering these questions about your new novel:

• What is the geographical, historical and social setting? How does this affect the story?
• who is (are) the main character(s)?
• Who are the secondary characters?  How are they linked to the main characters?
• What is the conflict?
• Who is telling the story?  How does this influence the story?


Thursday - Complete essay and study for test over literary terms.

Friday - Test over literary terms.

6th Grade ELA AC and 7th Grade ELA AC March 14th - 18th

 

The topic sentence contains the central idea around which a paragraph is developed.  A good topic sentence has the following characteristics:

1. It introduces the topic of a paragraph without announcing it.
2. It hooks the reader.
3. It plants questions in the reader's mind.
4. It uses thought-provoking words.
5. It is usually the first sentence in the paragraph, but doesn't have to be.
6. It provides a transition from the previous paragraph.


Monday -  Develop a topic sentence including at least 3 of the 6 items above.  Write a paragraph (having at least 8 sentences) supporting your topic sentence. 

Tuesday - Make sure that you can show that your paragraph sentences prove/support your topic sentences.

Wednesday - Proofread for grammatical errors.

Thursday - Turn in paragraph.

Friday - Test over parts of a sentence.  We will Jig Saw this all week in class.

6th and 7th AC ELA March 7th - 11th, 2011

6th Grade

Monday - Respond to notes from PowerPoint over sentence structure.  Your response will be graded on Tuesday.  Begin your "I AM" Poem.  Directions are at the end of the assignments.

Tuesday.  Respond to notes from PowerPoint over sentence structure.  Your response will be graded on Wednesday.

Wednesday - "I AM" poem.

Thursday - Have Jig Saw assignment ready for delivery to your group.

Friday - Turn in "I Am" poem.  Jig Saw delivery.

I AM Poem instructions:  You will write an "I AM' poem as if you are Alice or another character from the novel.  You will write as if you are the character from the book. Avoid the obvious and the ordinary and really think about qualities of the characters that are unique or distinctive.  I will have examples in the class. 

7th Grade

Monday - Respond to PowerPoint on sentence structure.  Your response will be graded on Tuesday.  Answer the following question over Murder on the Orient Express:

First impressions play a large part in the story. When Miss Debenham saw Poirot she referred to the detective as "peculiar but harmless." Explain how Poirot would have assessed his first impression of Miss Debenham, Colonel Arbuthnot, and Cassetti/Ratchett.

• Your answer should be 2 pages (double spaced).
• Use specific examples from the story to back up your points.
• Have a clear organizational pattern with strong transitions between ideas.
• Pay attention to proper grammar and especially sentence structure.
• Proofread your paper.

Tuesday - Respond to PowerPoint on sentence structure.  Your response will be graded on Wednesday.

Wednesday - Work on essay. Jig Saw delivery.

Thursday - Work on essay.  Be prepared to deliver information on sentence structure.

Friday - Turn in essay.  Deliver your part of information on sentence structure.

Rules for Subordinating Poetry:

• Write at least 2 stanzas of five lines each.  You may write more stanzas.
• The first 4 lines of each stanza must begin with a word from the list of subordinators and cannot be a complete sentence.
• The last line of the stanza cannot begin with a subordinator and must be a complete sentence.
• First word of each line begins with capital letter.
• The first four lines are punctuated with a comma, and the last line is punctuated with a period.
