Monday -

• Classical Roots Exercise 4A. 
• Write a two page composition (skipping lines).  Include:  5 Classic Words, 1 simile, 1 metaphor, 1 example of onomatopoeia, 3 sentences illustrating parallel structure, and 2 examples of how you combined two sentences into one more interesting sentence.  Underline each example and explain what method you used to combine your sentences (Explain on another sheet of paper.  THIS IS DUE FRIDAY, 10/1.

Tuesday - Classical Roots Exercise 4B.

Wednesday - Classical Roots Exercise 4C.

Thursday - Study for Classical Roots quiz over chart.

Friday - Turn in composition from Monday and take Classical Roots quiz.

 

Never Cry Wolf and The Outsiders Project - due on October 1, 2010 (Friday)

Projects on the novels Never Cry Wolf and The Outsiders will not be due until  Friday of the week that we return to school after fall break (October 1, 2010).  This is a change of due dates.

• Wednesday - Classical Roots Exercise 3C  Poem Presentations.
• Thursday - Poem Presentations.
• Friday -   Roots Quiz over Lesson 3.  Poem Presentations.

6th AC - Never Cry Wolf      Choose one activity - Due on Monday, September 27th. Get Rubric in class on Tuesday  (9/14).

CHOOSE ONE ACTIVITY:

• Make a book cover or book mark for this novel (have illustrations)
• Write a poem pretending that you are the wolf.  Make sure that you include your feelings on man's encroachment on your territory.
• Make a timeline of all of the events in the novel.
• Choose a favorite scene from the novel and make a comic strip.
• Pretend that you are Farley Mowat and write a diary that he might have kept during his sojourn into the Arctic.  Remember to include his thoughts and feelings about his isolation, the wolves, the government, and the Eskimos as well as his findings about the declining caribou population.
• Assume the role of film director.  In a small group of up to four students, select a scene to act out before the class.  Your group will need to create a script for your role play.

7th AC The Outsiders -  Due on Monday, September 27th.(Choose one)  Get Rubric in class Monday 9/13.

CHOOSE ONE ACTIVITY:

• In a small group of up to four students, select a scene to act out before the class. Your group will need to create a script for your role play.
• Draw at least 3 comic strips that highlight 3 important events in The Outsiders.  Make sure the dialogue is realistic for the characters.
• Make a time line sequencing 10 important events spanning through the entire book, including the beginning, middle, end, and critical points in the plot.  For each event, include a brief explanation (about 3 sentences) as to why it is significant.
• Rewrite the ending.  This should change what happened at the end of the book while keeping true to the characters' personalities.
• Design a graffiti poster/book cover/book mark featuring the slang words in the novel.  Include actual meanings and current slang equivalents.  Your creation should be colorful and artistically appealing.
• Produce a soundtrack of at least 3 songs for The Outsiders.  Write an explanation justifying the relevance for each song.  Use quotes to support your rationale.

Monday - Labor Day 2010

Poetry Presentation is due 9/15 (Wednesday).

Tuesday - Study for Classical Roots Test - Lessons 1 and 2   Revisit Interactive Notebook.  Respond to anything that you did not complete from the last three weeks.

Wednesday - Study for Classical Roots Test - Lessons 1 and 2. 

Thursday - Classical Roots Test.  Make sure that you have responded to all literary terms (9 terms) that we discussed in class this week.

Friday - Progress Reports go home. Learn your poem for next Wednesday.
